I've been knitting for seven years and I think I can count the number of sweaters I knit on my two hands. I think I can count the number of them that fit the first time on one hand. I feel like I'm in a yarny rut and the only cure is to put myself out there, shove myself outside my comfort zone, and try some new things. So here we find ourselves, munching awkwardly on breadsticks and waiting for the appetizers to come.
I can promise to you that I will always show you my flaws. If I didn't, what would I have to write about? I hope that we'll learn things together, even if we're only learning a little something new about ourselves. I always felt the best way to do that is to evaluate how far you've come and how far you have to go. It's a little early in the year for resolutions, but here's a list of notches I'd like to put in my belt in the foreseeable future. I am the kind of date to bring a list of talking points in my pocket, in case the conversation stalls.
- Meet New People
- Knit with Them
- Learn a New Technique
- Improve a Technique I'm Already Comfortable With
- Go to a New (to me) Yarn Event
- Take a Class
- Use a New Fiber
- Design a Garment (yeah, that's a big one)
So if anyone is out there, drop me a line! Who's up for an adventure? Leave a comment and tell me a little about what you would like to accomplish as a knitter. Is it just a fun hobby? Are you looking to make a living from your craft? What are your yarny hopes and dreams?

Hello there!
ReplyDeleteAccomplish as a knitter...hmmm....actually finish something? hahahaha...I've actually finished a few things, but I do have a long list of started projects!
Lol! I know it! Sometimes that seems like Everest! I'm working on a sweater now that I started in February. I've made so many mistakes that I think I've become sick of looking at it. :-/ Right now it's sitting in a project bag as I debate if I want to finish it or reclaim the yarn.
DeleteLove this! And i know what i want to accomplish... more time to knit! Aside from that I want to get to know yarns better in that I puck better yarns for my projects...and I want to get more comfortable with various techniques and learn new ones....moar practice!
ReplyDeleteI've got the same problem with yarn substitution and I'm not a very fast knitter either. I've started keeping small projects to work on during breaks, waiting for food at a restaurant- you know I get the 'Mercier stare' for that one.
DeleteWith all the travelling you do, do you knit on the plane/in the car? Sometimes it's so hard though. I could have been knitting for the last hour but I'm trying not to fall asleep.
And learn to spell :)
